Guides on finding, understanding and dealing with wasp nests.
Knowing how a visit unfolds takes the worry out of it, and it shows how little you need to do apart from staying out of the way.
An outdoor event is a fixed date in a calendar that wasps ignore, so the sensible approach is to check the site early and plan the food and drink with care.
A chippy sells hot food in paper to people standing in line, which is an easy target for wasps, so the doorway and the queue need most attention.
A long or well-sheltered hedge can hold more than one nest at once, and finding them all matters more than treating just the obvious one.
The nest is only half the problem; the other half is the food, bins and washing that keep drawing wasps back into the garden while it settles.
